Top 10 Best Gaming Laptops with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Graphics
The Nvidia RTX 30 series never ceases to amaze. Since September 2020, Nvidia has been scoring home runs with its RTX 30 series lines up for laptops. There are a total of three cards announced to date, the latest being the RTX 3060 announced a few months back in February.
Last time out we covered the best gaming laptops using Nvidia’s crown jewel, the RTX 3080 and Max-Q Technology. You can read it here. Today we have some more laptops for you gaming enthusiasts that have been a part of Nvidia’s dream run. These, however, use the slightly lower ‘specced’ RTX 3070 graphics card.
Performance of RTX 3070 Mobile vs RTX 3080 Mobile
When comparing the performance of the two Ampere based cards, we see a difference in the number of CUDA cores, transistors and graphics processing units. The clock speeds are different and so is the dedicated video graphics memory. The technology however is the same and we see the same architecture and 8nm manufacturing process.
Where the RTX 3070 differs is the use of 5120 CUDA cores in comparison to RTX 3080’s 6144. The base clock frequency is the same but the boost clock frequency sees about a 100 MHz drop. The memory bus width and PCIe is the same at 256 Bit and 4.0 respectively but the TDP is at least 25 watts lower than RTX 3080’s 150 plus watts when used with Dynamic Boost. Finally, the available video memory is fixed at 8GB GDDR6.

Enough of the numbers. What this difference boils down to is just a 10-15 per cent reduction in performance which is still a good proposition considering that the laptops using the RTX 3070 should cost at least USD 200 lesser than the laptops with the RTX 3080.
Not convinced if you should read on? Well, here are the benchmarks.
Almost the latest title and the average performance drop is less than 10 per cent.
Here is the RTX 3070 mobile performing in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. The performance drop is within 15 per cent.
