1. ASUS TUF Gaming A15 15.6-inch AMD Ryzen 7 Gaming Laptop – GTX 1660Ti, 512GB SSD
Based on the Ryzen 4000 series platform, the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 laptop tops our list. This powerful laptop is driven by AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor with 8 core. This high power CPU with a typical TDP of 45W and a maximum power of 54W runs much faster than its equivalent energy efficient counterpart, the AMD Ryzen 4800H. This beast will handle even the most demanding of games and it does so with the onboard GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. Based on Average CPU Mark, it’s more than twice as fast as the AMD Ryzen 7 3750U thanks to the extra 4 cores.
Another trick it has up its sleeve is the high refresh rate display. This makes the panel capable of displaying high motion, fast action games without stuttering. At 144Hz on a full size 15.6-inch display with Full HD resolution, it is everything gamers need from a mobile gaming machine.
Finally, all that power is wrapped in military grade durable chassis that can survive extreme temperatures, humidity and drops. Ther ere two fans and multiple heatpipes as well as three heatsinks working together to keep the system cool and dust free at the same time. Even with all run components, the laptop manages up to 7 hours of battery life per charge.

3. MICROSOFT Surface Laptop 3 15-inch AMD Ryzen 7 – 512GB SSD
The Surface Laptop 3 is the first Surface device to adopt an AMD Ryzen 5 and 7 processor. Not just any Ryzen CPUs but ones custom designed for it. Used only on the Surface Laptop 3 15 and not the 13-inch version, the AMD chips in question are below:
- MD Ryzen™ 5 3580U Mobile Processor with Radeon™ Vega 9 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition
- AMD Ryzen™ 7 3780U Mobile Processor with Radeon™ RX Vega 11 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition
Our pick, the AMD Ryzen 7 3780U is a tad slower than the Ryzen 7 3750U. It may not come with a discrete GPU, but the onboard AMD Radeon™ RX Vega 11 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition is sufficiently powerful for some light gaming.
The real reasons we picked the Surface Laptop 3 are the slimline (14.69mm) and lightweight (1.54kg) case, the Quad HD albeit 3:2 aspect ratio touch enabled display that also supports the optional Surface Pen, the long battery life of up to 11.5 hours and that cool design and colour options.

4. ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 15.6-inch AMD Ryzen 7 Gaming Laptop – GeForce RTX3080, 1TB SSD
Another ASUS gaming machine, this time from the ROG series, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 is a minimalist and sleek looking machine. While the TUF Gaming A15 screams look at me, the ROG Zephyrus G is more subdued, with its square edges and black metal finish. The only inkling that it is a gaming machine is the self lighthing programmable design on the lid. Even that can be turned off if you do not wish to be showy.
It is powered by the new generation Ryzen 7 5800HS replacing the AMD Ryzen 7 3750U. This Ryzen 7 5000 series chip is pretty powerful processor, more powerful than the Ryzen 7 4000 series or the special edition processor used on Microsoft Surface laptop, the Ryzen 7 3780U.
Using an energy efficient cpu also allows the laptop to be slim, measuring only 26mm thin and weighing 2.0kg. But what is most important for it to be classed as a gaming machine is the inclusion of a discrete graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 3080 with a generous 8GB GDDR6 memory.
Elsewhere, the laptop excels with a Full HD 15.6-inch panel with a high refresh rate of 165Hz, generous amounts of memory and storage at 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD respectively. If you love gaming on the go and prefers a slim design over a loaded laptop, the ROG Zephyrus G15 is for you. Together, the CPU, GPU, display, memory and storage, this is a pro-level gaming machine.

- Dimensions and Weight: 23.5 x 257 x 360 mm (H x W x D), 2.25kg
6. ACER Nitro 5 15.6-inch AMD Ryzen 7 Gaming Laptop – RX560X, 512GB SSD
For a pro level gaming machine, a strong processor requires a strong graphics card. Unfortunately, the Nitro 5 being a mid-range machine comes with a strong AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor but is paired with a middling AMD Radeon RX 560X with 4GB GDDR5 graphics.
The laptop is still capable of offering smooth and stable performance even when running some demanding games. Given the high power nature of the CPU, ithe laptop is designed with twin fans and dual air exhaust to keep the laptop running cool especially when playing high speed games. You can tune the laptop with NitroSense dashboard and check on the temperature and fan speed if you like that kind of stuff.

7. HP ENVY x360 15.6 or 13.3-inch AMD Ryzen 7 2-in-1 Laptop, 512GB SSD
While other laptops may have touchscreens, here is a laptop that goes beyond just having a touchscreen but one that supports Stylus input with the stylus included and has 360-degree hinges. The HP Envy x360 2-in-1 convertible laptop come with multi-mode use, tablet being one. It is also light for its size, starting from 1.3kg for the 13.3-inch model and 2.05kg for the 15.6-inch model.
It is able to achieve this by using the energy efficient AMD Ryzen 7 3700U with lower TFP (see table above). As a result, you get amazing battery life even with the bigger 15.6-inch device lasting up to 13 hours per charge. What is missing, is the discrete graphics. The Envy x360s rely on the AMD Radeon RX Vega 10. Still, the laptop is good for the occassional games.
Now, with Ryzen 7 4700U in place of the Ryzen 7 3700U, the powerful and power hungry processor manages up to 8.5 hours battery life on the 15.6-inch model. A small price to pay for extra performance.

This is a more efficient and powerful chip with embedded Radeon Graphics. It also comes with double the memory at 16GB, 512GB SSD and a convenient 15.6-inch Full HD touchscreen. The laptop is way lighter and slimmer than the gaming equivalent above. Given its affordable price tag, it is also one of the favourites with buyers. Again, with performance means battery life penalty, with up to 7.5 hours on a full charge just about a full day’s work.
It weighs under 2kg at 1.75kg and measures only 17.9mm thin. Like the HP Envy x360, it comes with a touchscreen but unlike the Envy x360, this is strictly a laptop, not a convertible.

Surprisingly, even with the power hungry CPU, Acer claims up to 11.5 hours of battery life so you can get a full days work without needing charge. It is also lightweight at 1.2kg and measures 15.9mm thin.
Even at its low price point, Acer managed to surprise us with a tough touchscreen display fronted by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass. This makes it stronger and able to withstand knocks and bumps of daily life. It also means it won’t scratch easily from day to day use. Lastly, yet another surprise, the slim laptop has a cool metallic frame with sleek all-metal aluminium body, except for the frame around the screen. That’s made of plastic.
