HONOR Magic4 Pro 5G: Features that stand out the most
Underdogs like Honour have but one selling point, value. That is why the HONOR Magic4 Pro 5G flagship is jam packed with tonnes of features include 5 camera sensors. The first three are for images and videos, while the other two are flicker sensor and Time of Flight laser focusing system. Powered by the new generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, with on screen fingerprint sensor, huge Quad Curved LTPO display with high 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 100W fast charging, it’s a tough phone to beat for the money. We look at features that stand out the most from the latest flagship
1. Big Camera Cluster
The symmetrical and concentric camera and sensor arrangement makes the camera cluster around the back look way bigger than it needs to be. This is reminiscent of Nokia 9 PureView launched back in 2019, see image below. The three cameras are, the main Wide 50MP camera with advanced 7P lens, the Ultra Wide 50MP with 122 degree field of view (FOV) and is capable of macro shots and the 64MP periscope telephoto camera that offers 3.5x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). The two complementary sensors are flicker sensor to reduce flicker when shooting and 8×8 dTOF Laser Focusing System for multi point laser focus for quick and accurate focus and bokeh effects.
Triple Rear Camera
- 50MP Wide Camera (f/1.8) +
- 50MP Ultra Wide Camera (f/2.2) +
- 64MP Periscope Telephoto Camera (f/3.5, 3.5x Optical Zoom, 100x Digital Zoom, OIS)
The rear cameras are capable of 4K HDR video recording at 60fps with EIS and OIS stabilisations. Around the front is a 12MP selfie camera paired with 3D Depth Camera for face unlock. The front facing camera also supports 4K video recording with tonnes of capture modes to suit influencers and creators. Use the Magic Log Pro mode to shoot and transfer professional level video format from Log to Rec.709.
Front Cameras
- 12MP f/2.4 aperture 100° smart wide-angle selfie, Portrait mode, AI anti-distortion, 4K video shooting
- 3D Depth Camera for face unlock and professional level security with face identification.
2. Huge Factory Calibrated Display with Four Rounded Edges
The huge 6.81-inch LTPO OLED display is rounded on all sides and has high 93.5% screen to body ratio. With an aspect ratio of 20:9, it has a resolution of 1312 x 2848 pixels. You do get a pill shaped cut-out for the front facing camera located on the top left corner. Rest assured this is a full view display with plenty of potential. For starters, it produces 1.07 billion colours with DCI-O3 wide colour gamut and supports HDR10+ and IMAX Enhanced. The screen is calibrated to Delta E<0.5 for colour accuracy.
For silky smooth scrolling experience, the panel combines LTPO’s adaptive refresh of up to 120Hz with 1920Hz PWM dimming technology. What this does is to help reduce eye strain and make the screen more efficient in terms of power consumption. Then there is a dedicated Display Chipset that processes and optimise images for Always-on HDR. The chip can even enhance SDR videos with HDR in real time and adding extra frames to low frame rate videos to remove jitters.
3. Flagship Chip
Like all flagship smartphones released end of last year or this year, the Magic4 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile chip. This is Qualcomm’s 4nm 5G SoC processor which includes not only computing but image processing and AI performance. Three performance modes are available; OS Turbo X, GPU Turbo X and LINK Turbo X to suit your applications. The one that mosts interests us is the GPU Turbo X offering low power consumption for better efficiency and longer battery life using AI rendering in mobile gaming to boost frame rates. Plus it has hexagonal graphene that conducts heat quickly to the ultra thin VC liquid cooling system complemented by AI heat dissipation. Bottom line is, your handset will not overheat even with prolonged gaming.
The flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform on the HONOR Magic4 Pro is paired with a generous 8GB memory and 256GB storage.
4. Super Fast 100W Charging
The 4600mAh battery on the handset can be charged via cable or wireless. And, get this! Both wired and wireless charging supports a record super fast 100W. This translated to a full charge from zero in 30 minutes, or up to 60% in 15 minutes. The standard Honor 100W SuperCharge adapter is included while the wireless 100W SuperCharge is sold separately.
5. Ultrasonic Fingerprint and IP68 Rating
You know budget handset makers have truly arrived when they include under display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and that their flagship handsets are IP rated. In the case of Magic4 Pro, the chassis achieved IP68 rating for dust and water intrusion. Apart from Face Unlock, the Magic4 Pro also has a hidden Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Sensor under the display. This offers ultrasonic fast fingerprint unlocking to users for those who prefer to do it old school.
